Gay Rabbi Comes Out of His Orthodox Closet

Orthodox Jews practice a strict
interpretation of the Torah laws, which they believe are
eternal and unalterable. Leviticus 18:22 is the verse
in the Torah that, according to common interpretations,
prohibits male homosexual intercourse. Ron Yosef is a rabbi in an Orthodox
community in the Israeli city of Netanya. In August 2009, Rabbi Ron came out
in the open about being a homosexual. There are people in the community
that took it very hard, and turned to other rabbis to check
if I can continue in my position. Some showed support, understanding
and encouraged me, especially the younger generation. The circle of conversation expanded,
and it can’t be ignored anymore. Nearly a quarter of Israel’s Jewish
population practice Orthodox Judaism. Around the world there are hundreds
of thousands more Orthodox Jews. In this very conservative society,
one Leviticus verse was enough to make
homosexuality a social taboo. It is true that the Jewish Torah
forbids homosexual intercourse. For a religious gay man,
sex life is always grey. And … as long as there is no
verdict on these issues by today’s religious scholars,
and there isn’t even any dealing with the issue, how can I
give anybody any answers? Unlike others who stay in
the closet, Rabbi Ron has placed his personal life in the public spotlight.
He has taken the topic of religious gays out of the closet by
exposing the inner conflict he is living through
as an Orthodox homosexual. It is very hard to live without a sex life. But a religious heterosexual also
has restraints and is not allowed to do whatever he wants because
The Holy One has created a certain path and is leading humanity
in a certain way. That is the main part
of being a man of faith. If you believe that this world
has a creator that is directing everything, and he has provided
clear instructions, so one must “stick to the manual,”
even if it makes life difficult. In 2008, when he was still
in the closet, Rabbi Ron created Israel’s first organization for
Orthodox homosexuals, called HOD. The goals of the organization HOD
is to create a public discourse about homosexuality, and also provide
support and help for religious gays from all streams of Judaism.
I’m sorry to say I still meet people who say there no homosexuals
in the religious community. Today, HOD holds open meetings
all around Israel, and supports religious individuals
who are in the coming-out process. But most of the rabbis’ volunteer
work in HOD is dedicated to getting recognition to a new
Principles Document that accepts the existence of Jewish
religious homosexuals. The Principles Document is
suppose to bring a social and religious solution for
Orthodox homosexuals. We’re trying to find a way for gays
to be accepted in a Orthodox world that follows Jewish law without
attempting to change what is forbidden. We are trying to teach
and explain in the religious world
and directly to the rabbis. I hope and believe that this
Principles Document will eventually be accepted by the
leading Orthodox rabbis. Undercover as an energetic society
changer, Rabbi Ron is also an individual. I asked him if he would
like to get married one day. The need that I feel is for love, because living in solitude is
not correct and not good. It is written in The Book,
“it is not good for man to be alone.” Up until today there was zero
recognition of religious homosexuals. First the Orthodox society must
accept the existence of gays. Once there is acceptance
and understanding, then we can start discussing how to relate
to homosexual relations. After coming out of the closet,
Ron Yosef continued to serve as a community rabbi in Natanya,
but his Principles Document has, so far, been approved by only a few
of the leading rabbis in Israel. He believes that in the
future homosexuals will be a normal part of the
religious Jewish society. As long as it is not hurting the path
which the creator of the world paved then I don’t see a problem.
Again, there are many questions here and … the religious public and the rabbis will have to provide
the answers very soon.

@xXMissFoxyXx Yet you're arguing with me for saying that the bible is fiction, a fiction created to keep a certain community together, an invention as a defence against the prevailing culture of the times. This is standard atheist, historical, archaeological FACT. Did you not know? Surely not. You know everything right? Keep masturbating, those law books are gathering dust.

@DanielBerlinTV Haha, dude you've lost. You resorted to bitchy (slightly perverse) ad hominem attacks. You based your whole crazy tirade against me based on some imagined idea of my religious leanings (that you totally got wrong). This young man is just trying to live his life as a gay Jew. Good luck to him and good luck to all the gay Catholics, Hindus and Shintoists.
    Now please GO A WAY

@xXMissFoxyXx What planet are you from?! You need to get yourself sectioned. I made no assertion about your religious affiliations. I don't give a flying fuck what you believe. My point is that this poor guy is torturing himself over a fictional history – that's tragic in the extreme. That has nothing to do with your circular BS. And it's not ad hominem in your case, it is merely stating fact based on your ridiculous attempt to save face! Please ebay yourself a brain. Thank you.

@DanielBerlinTV "Wait, so if the bible isn't fiction, why are you an atheist?'" That's a pretty clear assertion of what you think I think, and if you don't care what I think, kindly go away.
What are you even arging with me about? I've barely stated my positions on anything about religion, philosophy, ethics, and yet you're arguing with me like a wrote a thesis on religion being awesome. You're the one trying to save face here, and you'll prove that by replying with more antagonistic BS.

@xXMissFoxyXx Hello! Earth to xXMissFoxyXx! You started arguing with me after I said it was tragic someone should go thru this trauma simply because he was brainwashed by a bible that is a fiction. I even gave a reason for why the ficiton was invented. You then waltzed in and went off on one at me – contradicting yourself as you went along. Is it any wonder I think you're bat shit crazy?

Homosexuality is not a choice. Believing in the flawed stories and principles written thousands of years ago, is. I am gay and there is no way I will entertain any religion that won't accept me. I don't see why this guy should either. Just let it go and get on with your life.

What a brave man, and handsome too. I hope he is successful, though I feel a better route would be abandoning orthodoxy altogether and pursuing his own life, in which he can still believe in and follow what he thinks are his God's precepts. Why try to make an orthodox religion unorthodox? It is what it is, ancient, ignorant, and inhumane to gay people. So I suggest just leave it to its own idiocy and go and live a much happier, less restrictive life outside orthodoxy.

I have one question to ask any Jewish Rabbi! Since the Ark of covenant is gone forever, and there is no more holy of holy's, If Jesus Christ is not the Lamb Of God, Messiah, perfect sacrifice for the sins of the world! Then who, or what is attoning for the sins of the Jews today! I have not see anything in the Torah that releases the Jews from this yearly obligation? And I do not hear of any Orthadox Jews or any Jews sacrificing sheeps, bulls, and goats today!

As a person whose family came from PA and were Quakers, being raised in Florida was exposed to the Baptist Church which one of my grandmothers attended. I was not happy in that church and chose to consider myself as my father had which is a Quaker. How dare you try to tell me what my belief system should be. You are abominable.

But just like everybody is not right-handed, everyone is not heterosexual. Homosexuality is no more of a sin than being left-handed is a sin.

Then the LORD God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone; I will make him a helper suitable for him.” Out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field and every bird of the sky, and brought them to the man to see what he would call them; and whatever the man called a living creature, that was its name. The man gave names to all the cattle, and to the birds of the sky, and to every beast of the field, but for Adam there was not found a helper suitable for him. So the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and he slept; then He took one of his ribs and closed up the flesh at that place. The LORD God fashioned into a woman the rib which He had taken from the man, and brought her to the man.
    The man said,
“This is now bone of my bones,
    And flesh of my flesh;
    She shall be called Woman,
Because she was taken out of Man.”

For this reason a man shall leave his father and his mother, and be joined to his wife; and they shall become one flesh. and the man and his wife were both naked and were not ashamed. Genesis 2:18-24

A humble exhortation to our ultra-orthodox brothers: If you consider yourself an observant Jew, but your Judaism cannot free you from the abomination of the openly gay lifestyle, it means that your soul is not really [and therefore your place isn't with the Jews, but rather with the Christians]…. Be truthful to your soul; go to the nearest revival church, and ask Jesus to save you from your spiritual bondage…. Then, you will be in your proper place, and finally find the peace you need…

What an idiot . He want to be learned in the Torah but wants to be gay ? It's like saying you want to be a Judge but you don't believe the law of the land . You either believe it all or you don't . You have to bend to god not the other way around .

Its kosher as long as the dog is all beef with no fillers. Chilli is meant to go on a dog. Kosher chilli dogging in the Holy Land.
