Hot Topic #2: The iPhone Meditation – Matt Kahn

in the old spiritual paradigm in order
for beings to wake up they were to go to a spiritual event and they would just
spend time away from some form of identity alright they go to the retreat
and they’d have time away from there the role they play at their work they’d have
time away from the role they play in their family and the old spiritual
paradigm you would have a break from though these roles to contemplate who
are you and you’re not acting out your identity and what’s really funny about a
modern-day spiritual era is mm-hmm maybe what’s more effective is instead
of spending time away from the roles and identities of life maybe it’s just as
simple as coming together and spending time away from your cell phone maybe
that’s what I’ll create the iPhone meditation which of course ironically
will be a download but here’s how we’ll do it right the iPhone meditation
welcome to iPhone meditation I got the voice for it already right start by
placing your cell phone about 10 feet in front of you now flip it upside down so where you
cannot see any of the activity not knowing who’s tweeting you not knowing
who’s posting what on Instagram and just feel the sensation of an entire virtual
world passing you by ah doesn’t that feel good
isn’t that funny a meditation retreat in 2016 doesn’t require you to sit in
silence it’s just a big bin where you put your cell phone and you sit in the
room and then you talk to the teacher it’s my thought yes your phone’s okay
are you sure I don’t know if I charged it it’s fine are you sure no one’s taken
my phone in modern day times waking up isn’t that difficult it’s just that’s
even a funnier way of thinking about it people go how do I know if I’m still an
ego how often do you check your phone and then a funny question comes true it’s amazing that technology and the
seductive nature of technology is that all of technology seduces you with the
power of choice look what you can do look what you can do all the things you
can do the powers in your hands and it just keeps you constantly engaging in an
imaginary world sometimes it’s easy to forget and it’s
wonderful that technology brings us together but don’t ever forget that the
world of your phone is a virtual one my dad a spiritual journey isn’t about
thinking this this is an illusion it’s just not living inside your phone and
the people that are really attached to the phone we go yeah that’s great you
have anything else tonight hilarious

Being in tune and aligned and using the phone with intention and loving connection can be a way to connect on the spiritual path with other beings who seek refuge in sharing with other like minded individuals. I don't think it should be mocked or just categorised as one big illusion as it is most definitely not. It is a portal to other beings lives and places in the world for sure but this can be unifying and deeply filled with love and awareness. Awakening to connection.
I love you Matt and love your teachings but I'm afraid I disagree with just labelling all iPhone users or social media connectors as in an egoic state of denial. I have found you and your work through my iPhone. I have found some of the most important souls to me through Instagram and I am able to connect at a very high level of spiritual interaction with those on social media when all the bullshit is cut out and the real core of soul is shared. 🙏🏼💕✨

My daughter told me that she was fasting and praying for a particular situation with someone dear to her. I said, "Oh really"? She added "Yes, I'm fasting from social media!". I thought – welcome to the 21st century!

😍 Love It! I tell people that want to come experience nature in my back yard, with a snacking garden that matures around mid to late July, two waterfalls with little ponds, lots of crystals collected from my local hikes, a fire pit for evening solace, and so on and so on. But the catch is – they have to leave alcohol, tobacco, animals and cell phones in their vehicle. I don't get a lot of company.
