What is the purpose of God’s commandments

Many people don’t seem to understand why God
gave us commandments to live by. So, let’s see what the Bible says about it. It’s time to UNLEARN the lies. UNLEARN Hey, welcome to UNLEARN. My name is Lex, and I’d like to invite you
to join us each week as we UNLEARN the lies and dig deeper into the truth of God’s Word. Now, let’s get started. Many Christians mistakenly think that there
are only ten commandments, but there are actually hundreds of commandments in the Torah. The Rabbis teach that there are 613 commandments,
but I haven’t counted them myself to know for sure. The Hebrew word for “commandment” is “mitzvah”,
and is used in connection with hundreds of commandments throughout scripture, except
what we call the “Ten Commandments”. The word that the Bible uses here is “d’varim”,
which means “word, thing, or saying”, and is used to mean “the sum of that which is
spoken”. So, according to the Bible, what we call the
“Ten Commandments” are actually the “Ten Sayings that sum up that which God has spoken”. Understanding this helps to bring clarity
to the scriptures. For example, when Yeshua (Jesus) quoted the
“Greatest Commandment”, He quoted from Deuteronomy 6:5, and when he gave the second, He quoted
from Leviticus 19:18, neither of these commandments are listed in the “Ten Commandments”, but
Yeshua said that these are the two greatest commandments, so obviously when He speaks
about the commandments of God, He is referring to more than just the “Ten Commandments”. Yeshua said,
“All the Torah and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” – Matthew 22:40 If you think about it, the Ten Commandments
can be divided into two sections, the first half dealing with how we love God, and the
second half dealing with how we love others. If we look at the other 600 or so commandments,
we will see the same principle applies to them as well. Yeshua taught that the commandments teach
us how to love God, and that we are to obey and teach all of the commandments in the Torah. “Whoever therefore breaks one of the least
of these commandments, and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven;
but whoever does and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.” – Matthew 5:19 Every commandment in the Torah teaches us
how to love God and how to love others. We see that John also explains this concept
in his first letter: “By this we know that we love the children
of God, when we love God and keep His commandments. For this is the love of God, that we keep
His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome.” – 1John 5:2-3 Paul also teaches the same concept, saying,
“Love does no harm to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.” – Romans 13:10 As does James:
“If you really fulfill the royal law according to the Scripture, ‘You shall love your neighbor
as yourself,’ you do well.” – James 2:8 So, you see, the commandments are given to
us for the purpose of teaching us how to love God and love each other. Every single commandment teaches us to love. SHARE THE TRUTH

I was thinking about what fulfilling the law means. I thought about what does Yeshiva come to do if Yahweh is so strict! I wonder if fulfilling the law is really about what it means when some of ignorance or those whom beg mercy, or like them that may have known no other life as may have been the case of the woman to be stoned, should really be seen as wait a moment, God did not destroy creation, God sent his son to die that we might be saved and alas, we must not always be so unmerciful. I think we have gotten headed towards too much mercy, but we do need to consider that as the world has become much more civil, we must consider for example that maybe the individual involved in sexual abominations might not actually be the ones deserving of the stoning but in all truth God is much more furious against them that promote it's normalizing. Jesus said if you thought it you sinned, I think that's where the wisdom is regarding things. I for one find those who are not but promote it to often have something I dislike about their vibes, something sincerely bothers me about some that stick up so much for something so easily shut down.

the reason that he said that those are the greatest is because number one every Jewish child at 3 years old hear o Israel the Lord God is one and the second one is because Hillel was asked by a king how do I keep the Commandments of God and he said easy I can tell you standing on one foot hear o Israel the Lord God is one love him with all your heart soul strength and body love thy neighbor as you love yourself everything else is commentary

we dont live by the Torah under the new covenant in Christ, we cant unless we want to start stoning people for fornication! for example! we are however to live by the 10 or 11 commandments, there is a difference between the 10 commandments (the law of liberty) and mosaic law, read the gospels carefully!

Why does Paul rebuke Peter for trying to reinstate circumcision which is part of mosiac law (613 commandments), if we are still under that law?

How can we possibly keep 600+ laws? I want to understand, but don’t get this. What was the purpose of Jesus taking the curse upon himself, hanging on a tree, a perfect sacrifice, fulfilling the law, if we still need to keep it? The law points us to the only One who could fulfill ALL of it! I see many claiming we need to keep the law but I don’t see them out performing it?? If you mean the 10 commandments I can get it, but not the 600+.

here is an idea: that Satan won in killing the Human race, by getting God to condemn each one of us to death, with a limited lifespan. If it was not God that condemned us to death, then it was the actual fruit of the tree of knowledge. If such a dangerous tree was put IN THE MIDST ( middle) of the Garden, what purpose did it serve? Also, why would it take an Angel 3 weeks to get to Jacob, stating that the war in Heaven slowed him down. Is not the God of the Bible unequaled? Would not the Most High be indifferent to the devil and his power? I am seeing more confusion as I read and think on the Bible, and it is disheartening that I won't even have a chance at Everlasting Life. Why love something that is killing me? I am struggling very hard with life, and feel great pressure just to stay alive. Where is the Creator God and Yeshuah? Why do I think they don't seem to care? —I am suffering. I feel abandoned. I am trying to be right.

Hey there, I just found your channel and I love it! Fascinating stuff, and I appreciate you bringing light to the scriptures. Your videos on Hell and the Trinity were great and answered a lot of my questions.

I’m sure you’ve got plenty of topics to keep you occupied, but could you do a video on the nature of circumcision in modern times. Is it still required by God’s law? Would remaining uncircumcised, or choosing not to circumcise your son go against God’s wishes, or was this just for the Israelites? Friends and I have discussed our own personal views on the matter, but I’m curious to hear what the Bible has to say.

Thanks in advance if you get a chance to make said video. Either way, please continue your work, it’s much appreciated! Take care and God bless.

I recently watched your video talking about the Sabbath and I really enjoyed it it was very nice but did spark up a couple questions in my head. Do you think or believe that people who do not go to church on the Sabbath but still do attend church on Sundays will inherit the kingdom of God? Yes or no and why?

I believe there is nothing impossible for Him as God that He cannot accomplish, including giving us as human beings created in His image what we need to obey His Living Word to the degree and by the amount of faith He gives us! Yet Paul did say that while we are weak in our fleshly bodies our spirits are willing and can by the strength of Messiah do that which He, God says by His word we will do, so that it is not we who are doing these things but God working in us to do His good pleasure! We only need to believe, submit, and trust God about all things! And while this may sound easy I know it is not easy as we must pick up our own crosses, every day and follow Messiah Jesus to where ever He wants each of us to go! I encourage all believers to not become discouraged but rest in Messiah Jesus just as Mary did, the sister of Martha and their brother, Lazarus, whom Messiah Jesus raised from the dead! May God the Heavenly Father give each person who desires it the ability to understand what His will is for them in this life, that thereby He Jesus the Messiah might be glorified with much praise and thanksgiving.

Hope you're well brother. I have a few questions. I was raised in Southern Baptist. Every Sunday my preacher would tell us something that we were going to bust hell wide open. So I'm still trying to wrap my head around what you said about hell and the Lake of Fire. I have a question about the Book of Enoch . What are your thoughts on this. The Book of Enoch seems to teach about Messiah and God's power. Some discount it because the way describes the earth and the heavens ? But again I'm myself I've been awakened to new truth about us , where we live and the heavens. Also how the group of individuals has been in control of this world since the tower of Babylon. Enoch seems to describe the end times to the T. Also it was referenced in the word of God. So again just your thoughts. God bless you and your family.

Jesus said he did not come to abolish the Law but to fulfill it, so that through believing on him I will have eternal life and I am set free from fulfilling the Law of God as I was already in transgression of it and had no hope of fulfilling it at all and thus was facing judgment because of it, that is why Jesus needed to die for us while we were sinners as we are hopeless in trying to save ourselves by following the Law.

21¶Is the law then against the promises of God? God forbid: for if there had been a law given which could have given life, verily righteousness should have been by the law.

22But the scripture hath concluded all under sin, that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe.

23But before faith came, we were kept under the law, shut up unto the faith which should afterwards be revealed.

24Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.

25But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster.

26¶For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.

27For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.

28There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.

29And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise

    Romans 8:1 KJV
8 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

    2 Corinthians 6:16 KJV
16 And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.

Jesus was manifest into the flesh and blood of the son of man, which is us the Lord became, to dwell in us, and to walk in us, and in so doing, Jesus Christ fulfilled all the law of the ten commandments, so for those who love him, by believing in the one God had sent, they are then sanctified into the one glorified body Jesus now has with him, where all the ten commandments of the law have been fulfilled, and that is how we keep the commandments of God, by way of the Lord having come to dwell within us, in one body sacrificed Jesus took to the cross, to do away with all the worlds sins, who came into this world to fulfil the commandments on our behalf, and that is why it is said, there is therefore no condemnation for all those who are in Christ Jesus, and that is because, there is no sin in the glorified body God has with him, where there is no law against sin, being there is no sin in the body of Christ for the law to be against.

According to Hebrews 7:18-19, the law was weak and unprofitable. You cannot keep up with it, and no one has ever fulfilled the law except Christ. And Christ gave us a new commandment in John 13:34-35, Christ said “A new commandment I give to you, love your neighbors as yourself”. I think you’re avoiding using your bible quotations in the context it written in the scriptures. You can never by right with God but obeying the laws, as this will mean the death and resurrection of Christ is in vain. If I may ask you, what does the death and resurrection of Christ mean to you?

The Ten Commandments were written on stone tablets and spoken by God. They were kept inside the Ark of the Covenant. The others were written by people on parchment and kept next to the Ark. Clearly, there is a difference between the two sets. Many of the others are not just explanations of the ten, but deal with totally different matters, like leprosy (fungus on the walls?) of houses and not yoking an ox and a donkey together and many, many more. And those that are explanations are covered by the ten.

Indeed. Christ came to free all. When we walk in His way, we naturally should fully comply with the Law. We are not bound by the Law, but freely choose it for its righteousness. His saving grace is sufficient to cover our transgressions. Shalom.
